LECTURE
Week 1: Firstly, we were introduced to the module by being provided with the information booklet. It helped us understand how projects are going to be assessed, as well as what future lessons will be about. Afterwards we were given tips on how to be a successful graphic designer and what programs are best to use for our work.
Week 2: For the first part of the lecture we went over last weeks task about our e-portfolios as well as our assigned work where we had to choose 3 graphic design posters and explain why we liked them. Moving on from that, we were introduced to the next part of our course which is basic composition. I've learned about focal points, scale and hierarchy, balancing elements and the use of white space in order to create meaningful compositions. Then we learned about rule of thirds and the golden ratio which are different ways to apply to our compositions for them to harmonise and look better.
Week 3: This week we learnt more about the program Photoshop, specifically how to use the layer functions and the lasso and pen tools. We were taught the difference between those two tools since they have a similar function. This will be then used to help in our digital collages.
Week 4: Mr Fauzi talked us through adjustment layers and filters, we learnt how to create filters to make an image look much more visually interesting to the viewer and have colors that work together better than the original.
TUTORIAL
Week 1: Intro to Google Classrooms as well as how to organize our Google drive folders properly to put all our work in. We were then taught about collages and how to assemble a collage from cutting out pieces from magazines. At first we will be doing a physical collage, but further on we will be creating a digital collage.
The video about collage:
Week 2: Demo
We re-watched the video about collages that Mr Fauzi showed us last week to grasp how to create collages. He told us that we should have fun with it most of all and to worry about other things later. We were told to refer to the video should we need anymore help and to remember the rule of thirds or golden ratio guides for our composition.
Week 3: We were briefed on how to create a digital collage. By using the knowledge we learnt in the lecture, we should be able to use layers and paths to complete our task.
PRACTICAL (Week 1-2)
For this week's assignment we were told to create a collage of our own with the compositions we had just learned. We had to come up with 3 different versions, but we shouldn't glue anything first, simply just arrange it for now.
Figure 1.0 First attempt at the collage, 07.04.21
This was my first try at trying to put together a decent collage. The magazines I bought did not have too many interesting shapes to cut out and were mostly full of models. I did not want to put too many people in my collage, so I tried to steer away from them and just put two for now.
This was my second attempt at the collage. I added one new picture which was the black and white checkboard pattern with the bag. I liked the pattern but it was certainly difficult to try and put the other pictures around it. I aim to not leave too many blank space in the corners so the viewer's eyes can travel all over the page.

From first to last, the composition became more simpler, which is something that I am not opposed to since too much can be distracting sometimes. I tried to take into consideration the Golden ratio for this one, but I'm sure I still didn't nail it quite yet.

FEEDBACK
Mr Fauzi said that I made good progress and suggested I go for the third composition to submit for Week 3.
