Reflections

Experience
Before classes commenced, I was a nervous wreck. Looking at my timetable I saw 'Typography' written down and then my nerves started to ease up, since it was something I was interested in but never really fully learned. I was excited to see what it was like but boy was I in for a long ride. It was certainly an experience I would rather hope to get over in the next few months - this class was both enjoyable yet the most stressful thing ever to endure. Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul were both really good teachers yet also had a tough love approach which intimidated me even to this day, but I'm grateful that he is the way he is so we aren't slacking off and not putting in effort. Trust me when I say the amount of all-nighters I pulled for this class is too many. I'm glad I've been taught how to better manage my time with the way deadlines work for this class.

Observations
Typography is so much more than simply putting text together with a nice font. This course taught us how to create compositions and how to even choose the right colors to go with our work, which to some may not be expected of this type of course. It taught us that sometimes detail isn't necessary, sometimes simple really is best for some designs. There is so much that goes into typography that I developed a newfound respect for, much more than before.

Findings
I never used any Adobe software before taking typography, not even before taking Creative Media. It was a grueling experience trying to figure out how things worked there but it feels very satisfying to finally achieve the look that you wanted for your works. Illustrator is fantastic to use for vector art and for putting together a design for typography, even to create your own font! I also learned useful shortcuts such as holding Alt + pressing the arrow keys would space out each letter, which I ended up using outside of typography for my own personal works.
